The North Carolina Association of School Administrators (NCASA) is hosting an essay contest to help celebrate the 175th anniversary of the opening of the first public school in the state.
All middle students in grades 6-8 in a public school district in North Carolina are eligible. Essay should be 500 words or less and provide facts based on one of the following topics:
"The first school opened in the school district"
"How the school district got its start"
"Interesting or unique part of the school district history"
"How the school or the district has helped the writer"
Entry must be original work; no group work allowed.
Cash prizes will be awarded, with 1st place receiving $500, 2nd place $250 and 3rd place $100. The 1st place winner will be honored at the 175 anniversary celebration January 20, 2015 in Reidsville, NC.
All submissions must be postmarked Nov. 7, 2014.
